Landslide that sent debris onto cars has Pittsburgh road restricted

PITTSBURGH — A landslide sent trees and power lines onto cars Sunday in Pittsburgh’s West End.

According to Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, the freeze/thaw cycle and this weekend’s wet weather caused enough movement in the soil for the land under the shoulder of Noblestown Road to give way. Trees and rocks toppled down onto Wabash Street.

People who live in the area are concerned, but relieved no homes or businesses need to be evacuated.

Noblestown Road is restricted to one lane of traffic. Officials said there will be alternating lane closures in the area until a more detailed analysis can be conducted and repair work completed.

“It’s a little scary, you know, because people park out here and something bad could happen. But I’m glad they’re up there inspecting it,” Julie Heath, of Westwood, said.

Drivers should look for alternate routes because significant delays are expected, officials said.
