Local Pharmacy Robbed With Toy Gun

NORWIN, Pa.,None — The manager of a local pharmacy said that a familiar face robbed the Norwin Pharmacy.

The manager stated that the thief came into the pharmacy all of the time, before he robbed the business. Police said Joseph Carilli Jr., 32, jumped over the counter looking for pain pills.

According to the pharmacist, Carilli walked nearly 20 miles from West Newton to North Huntingdon Monday afternoon to get oxycodone.

Manager Iris Stewart said Carilli was armed with a hammer and gun. Stewart said he became threatened everyone inside the building and told everyone to "get down on the ground."

One pharmacy technician was able to run for the back room and call police while Stewart and others listened to Carilli's demands, Stewart said.

Police said Carilli took off after receiving his pills. Officers said they caught up him a short time later. According to officers, the gun that Carilli had was a toy.

"You don't want to take that chance because if there is maybe just one bullet or something, you don't know who he's going to kill", said Stewart.

According to the manager, there isn't a lot of crime in the area so the robbery comes as a shock.
