PITTSBURGH — Two African penguin chicks that hatched last month made their debut at the National Aviary on Pittsburgh’s North Side Thursday.

According to Chris Gaus, who works at the National Aviary, the chicks are important for the survival of their species.

"Unfortunately, African penguins are a critically endangered species, losing well over 90 percent of their wild population in the past century and close to 65 percent in the past decade,” said Gaus.
