Two people are facing charges in the death of a 3-year-old boy in Mercer County.
Pennsylvania State Police announced charges against Felicesha Hardman and Wade Daniels, both of Greenville, on Monday.
The Mercer County Coroner says the boy was found dead in a home on Columbia Avenue in Greenville on June 27. An autopsy determined he died of cocaine toxicity.
PSP led the death investigation and determined Daniels and Hardman were “involved in purchasing, using and selling various controlled substances.”
Investigators say they obtained evidence that Daniels and Hardman purchased an illicit substance on June 26, then they later lost or misplaced the substance in the home while the child was in their care.
In their report, PSP says the autopsy found the child to have “fatal levels of the controlled substance” that was lost in the house.
Search warrants then located “significant evidence of frequent drug use” at the home and confirmed the “frequent purchase, use and sales of controlled substances,” the PSP report says.
Daniels and Hardman are facing charges of homicide, involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment and drug charges.
PSP says both suspects were involved in a single-vehicle crash in West Salem Township on August 9, where they suffered life-threatening injuries and were flown to an Ohio hospital.
Daniels has since been released and was arrested by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office on a pre-existing warrant. Hardman is still hospitalized.
Both Daniels and Hardman are expected to be extradited to Mercer County to be arraigned on the charges for this case.
PSP says the death investigation is ongoing.
