SMITH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people were killed and two others were injured in a one-vehicle crash in Washington County early Saturday morning.
Emergency dispatchers said the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. near Joffre-Bulger Road in Smith Township.
Officials said Joe Bowland and Michael Gregg, known as Dillion to family and friends, were taken to Weirton Medical Center in West Virginia, where they were pronounced dead.
Two other people were taken to Allegheny General Hospital and UPMC Presbyterian, where their conditions were not immediately available.
Roosevelt Archie, a friend of Bowland and Gregg, was one of many who left balloons and flowers at the site of the crash on Saturday in memory of the two best friends.
"[I’m] trying to stay strong for my friends and family and their family,” said Archie. “There's no words to describe how we all feel."
Bowland’s family described Bowland and Gregg as best friends and charismatic.
Police said the driver of the car that killed the two best friends was traveling 90 mph at the time of the crash.
Patty Charlier said she heard the wreck.
“Once he went off the road into my driveway, a couple feet from there, he tried to get back on the road and then from there I guess he was spinning and tumbling," said Charlier.
Police continue to investigate the crash and said charges may be pending.
