Three home runs weren’t enough for the Pirates in a 5-4 loss to the Brewers at PNC Park on Wednesday night as a late lead slipped away.
Scoring Plays
Bottom 2nd, 2-0 MIL: The Brewers (95-57) recorded four straight hits with two outs against Jared Jones. Andrew Vaughn plated a run with a base hit to left and Cooper Pratt followed with an RBI single to center.
Bottom 4th, 2-1 MIL: Oneil Cruz got the Pirates (75-77) on the board with a solo home run to right field off Logan Henderson, his 19th of the season.
Top 5th, 3-1: Brice Turang got the run back for Milwaukee with an RBI double to center field.
Bottom 5th, 3-3: Brandon Lowe tied the game with a two-run shot to right field. His second homer in as many games gave him 31 on the season.
Bottom 6th, 4-3 PIT: Rafael Flores Jr. gave the Pirates their first lead of the series with an opposite-field solo home run to right-center off JoJo Romero (3-3).
Top 7th, 5-4 MIL: Christian Yelich and the Brewers took the lead right back against Carmen Mlodzinski (7-7). With the bases loaded and one out, Yelich hit a two-run single down the left field line.
