PITTSBURGH — Several people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down the Parkway East overnight.
The crash happened after 2 a.m. and shut down the Parkway East between the Grant Street (Exit 71A) and Forbes Avenue/Oakland (Exit 72A) exits, forcing drivers to find other routes.
A report from Pennsylvania State Police says a Toyota Sienna changed from the middle to the left lane in front of a Nissan Rogue. This caused the Rogue to rear-end the Sienna, which hit a concrete barrier and became disabled.
At the same time, a Chevrolet Trax and a Toyota Corolla swerved from the left lane to the middle lane, and the Corolla rear-ended the Trax.
This resulted in the Trax sideswiping the Rogue before hitting the concrete barrier.
The Corolla also crashed into the barrier.
Three of the drivers were taken to an area hospital to treat minor injuries.
PSP thinks the driver of the Sienna was under the influence, and expects to file charges, pending medical records.
The crash remains under investigation. The affected section of the Parkway East reopened by 3:30 a.m.
