SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Emergency responders are at a local Denny’s after a vehicle crashed into the building.
An Allegheny County 911 official tells Channel 11 that first responders were sent to the Denny’s on Greentree Road in Scott Township around 9:15 a.m.
Our crew on scene saw a blue SUV crashed into the building.
The fire chief on scene said that three people inside the restaurant suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital. No Denny’s staff members were hurt, but a manager says they are all pretty shaken up.
He said this incident happened when a 91-year-old man hit the gas instead of the brake.
A structural engineer needs to come out and assess the building. In the meantime, the manager tells Channel 11 that they will be closed for the rest of the week.
Denny’s manager told Channel 11 he was thankful the restaurant wasn’t busier and filled with customers. Regulars like John Doyal said they’ve sat in that exact section.
“That particular spot is where there is a lot of nice booths, and I don’t think they’re going to be so nice for a while,” Doyal said.
Customers said they’re glad to hear no one was seriously hurt, but will have to find another breakfast spot for the foreseeable future.
“I wanted to have a late breakfast, so when you showed me what happened, I was really surprised,” said Walter Skolnicki of Greentree. “I’m going to go to another restaurant that I know is open.”
