Airbnb is deploying heightened “anti-party technology” across the United States ahead of Halloween weekend to reduce the risk of disruptive gatherings.
The automated safeguards will be active in Pittsburgh and other cities nationwide over the holiday weekend.
The technology aims to detect higher-risk reservation attempts and enforce the company’s year-round ban on parties. The screening mechanism evaluates reservation details to identify potential unauthorized events before bookings are completed.
During Halloween weekend last year, the system deterred approximately 85 people in Pittsburgh from booking entire homes on the platform.
Reported parties remain low across the state. In Pennsylvania last year, 0.08% of total reservations resulted in a report of a party to the company.
Guests who are blocked by the screening system can still use the platform to find alternative accommodations. Those options include private rooms and hotel listings.
A Neighborhood Support Line and 24-hour Safety Line have been set up for people to report urgent problems to Airbnb.
Airbnb is also offering noise sensors to hosts.
