Allegheny County officials are issuing a Code Red Heat Advisory because of multiple days of extreme heat.
The advisory goes into effect on Tuesday and stays in place through Thursday.
Channel 11 meteorologists say temperatures will hit the lower 90s for much of the week ahead, with humidity making it feel even warmer. Allegheny County officials say the conditions may pose a risk to vulnerable residents.
During the intense heat, cooling centers will be open throughout the county. You can find the cooling center nearest you by clicking here or calling 211.
While the advisory is in place, the Allegheny County Department of Human Services will check on older adults and street outreach teams will connect with those experiencing unsheltered homelessness to provide water and cooling supplies.
Everyone is encouraged to check on their neighbors, friends and families.
Allegheny County Emergency Services provided the following heat safety reminders:
- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water
- Limit time outdoors, especially mid-day
- Never leave kids or pets in a car
- Check on your elderly neighbors or those without air conditioning
Symptoms of heat exhaustion to monitor for include dizziness, nausea, headache or excessive sweating. If you experience any of these, take a break and find a place to cool down. If they continue, seek help.
