WASHINGTON — McKees Rocks native Damar Hamlin is taking his mission to give schools AEDs and CPR training all the way to Washington, D.C.
Hamlin, his younger brother and his cousins were on Capitol Hill to show his support for a bipartisan effort to do just that.
It’s a bill called the Access to AEDs Act.
The program would support CPR and AED training in K-12 schools.
More than 7,000 kids under age 18 suffer cardiac arrest every year.
Hamlin hopes this bill will help save lives.
“For schools that have AEDs, their survival rate for the children is seven times higher,” Hamlin said. “The Access to AED Act will ensure schools are as prepared and trained to respond in a time of crisis as those on the sideline of an NFL game.
All of the major sports leagues are also endorsing the bill.
