PITTSBURGH — On Wednesday, organizers with the Jim Rogers family made their message more urgent following an officer-involved assault where a Wilkinsburg policeman struck a protestor in the face during a rally last Saturday.
Protestors demanded that the officer involved be fired.
On Wednesday, a fellow protestor and organizer who witnessed the assault spoke on the group’s behalf. “We are angry that we had our right to protest taken away from us, and it was met with violence, but we also feel determined to not be silenced,” said Devon Adwoa.
The mayor of Wilkinsburg provided a statement following Saturday’s incident, confirming that the body cameras of all Wilkinsburg officers were on and will be reviewed. Currently, no statement has been released by the Wilkinsburg police chief releasing the officer’s name or current employment status.
