PITTSBURGH — Hazmat crews were called to the U.S. Steel Tower on Wednesday evening for a caustic liquid leak.

The leak occurred in a column of the building that is filled with fire protection fluid after a contractor performing work drilled a hole into the area, according to a report from Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Pittsburgh Public Safety said the leak was slowed but not stopped, mostly due to pressure within the vessel.
Three people, including two police officers, were treated for minor exposures at the scene, as the liquid can be a skin irritant.
Hazmat is collecting the fluid and utilizing vacuum trucks to contain it, according to the report.
There is no threat to public safety at this time, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.
According to a 911 dispatcher, the scene was clear by 8 a.m.
The U.S. Steel Tower opened back up on Thursday.
