PITTSBURGH — Imagine driving down your street after a long day at work then bam.
“I work to make my money I don’t want to spend it fixing my car,” said Jon Stadelman.
Stadelman told Channel 11 he was forced to spend hundreds of dollars to fix a broken taillight in his wife’s car after it was shattered by a rock on Alice Street in Bon Air.
That rock, he said, was thrown by a group of kids and he’s not their first victim.
“I understand kids being out in the street throwing football but when you start throwing rocks at vehicles that’s when you take it too far,” Stadelman said.
It doesn’t stop with rocks. Channel 11 spoke with several other victims in the area who didn’t want to be identified, but said a brick was thrown that shattered a windshield. Another woman said her car was shot multiple times with a BB gun.
With multiple calls to Zone 3 Police, the frustration is growing.
“We have reports posted but the officer basically said there’s not much he can really do,” Stadelman said.
Channel 11 asked Pittsburgh Public Safety about the crimes. Officers said they haven’t seen an uptick in calls to that area, but residents said they are calling and calling, concerned the situation will get worse and someone will get injured.
“It’s very frustrating like I said people shouldn’t be scared to drive to get to their homes and that’s pretty much what it is right now,” Stadelman said.
Stadelman hopes by speaking out it will bring attention to the problem so more people won’t have to keep taking their cars into the shop for more damage.
