None — ALEPPO TOWNSHIP, Pa. – A man was able to escape moments before his Aleppo Township home was badly damaged in a fire Sunday morning.
Officials said the blaze started at the house on Sewickley Ridge Drive around 3:30 a.m.
“At 3:30 in the morning, I woke up to a crash,” homeowner Joe Barnes said. “I looked out my window and the whole sky was orange.”
Barnes said once he heard a light fall from his ceiling, he ran out of the house. Once outside Barnes said he tried to call the fire department, but couldn’t get through because his neighbor, Robert Snow, was already calling.
“I thought it was awfully early for the sun to be coming up, so I went in the bathroom and saw the entire backside of the house was on fire,” Snow said.
Two cars, the home’s roof and most of the walls were completely destroyed in the blaze.
“I lost some skin on the bottom of my feet from walking on coals,” Barnes said. “My wife and I lost a lot of mementos, but you can replace that stuff.”
Barnes said he will meet with his insurance company to find out what his options are.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
