AMBRIDGE, Pa. — An Ambridge man was arrested Thursday on charges he killed his girlfriend's 3-year-old son last year.

Investigators said they were called to the Beaver Road home in Ambridge last October and found the toddler unresponsive.

Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz reported that the child was on life support for days before he died in November.

Kay told officers that he thought the boy jumped off of a dresser and hit his head.

Police said Timothy Kay told them that he walked out of the bedroom the boy was in and heard a loud "thud," and then found the boy on the floor.

The boy was taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh where doctors said the boy's injuries were consistent with simple assault. The boy died of blunt force trauma to the head.

After a three-month investigation and the coroner ruling the death as a homicide, police arrested Kay. He is facing homicide charges.

The boy’s mother told Marcinkiewicz that she’s “been waiting three months for this arrest.”

Kay remains in jail, being held without bail.
