Brian Jameson of the Ambridge police said the attempted robbery happened around 6:30 Friday night.
The suspect is described as a white man with brown hair, a brown beard and wearing a tan hooded sweatshirt.
Police said the suspect entered the store several times throughout the late afternoon hours and tried to purchase several times.
“On the final attempt, the subject came behind the register threatening the clerk that he had a firearm and would use it if not given the money in the register,” Jameson said.
The clerk refused and later told police he believed the suspect was a drug user from his demeanor and his speech.
Anyone with information is urged to call police.
