None — AMBRIDGE, Pa. — Authorities said six students at Ambridge High School were suspended for their involvement in a racial fight that broke out at the school earlier this week.
Ambridge police Officer Jerel Smith said a female student was upset after her painting of basketball great Michael Jordan was defaced with a swastika.
According to police, Shamaria Parham, 18, told other students about the incident, tensions got hotter throughout the day and eventually a fight ensued.
Police said four students were involved in a fight outside the school and a fifth was arrested over an angry outburst inside the school on Tuesday.
Dayquoine Rettick, 17, was one of the students involved, but his attorney said he was defending himself.
“He admits he was there, but he was just defending himself when it got out of control,” Blaine Jones said. “We just want to sort this out with the police.”
Rettick turned himself into police Thursday with his mother and Jones by his side.
School officials said no further disciplinary action is planned but the school held an assembly Tuesday to calm students' nerves.
Authorities have not released any other details about the incident.
