ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police spent hours on scene of a standoff in Ross Township on Saturday.
An Allegheny County 911 dispatcher said police were called to the 300 block of Tadmar Avenue at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Ross Township Police said officers were looking for a person with a warrant at that location. Police said, based on prior interactions with the suspect, he is known to be a threat to himself and others.
An officer who approached the house saw a man inside loading a gun, pacing around and aiming it. Police said this man legally cannot possess a firearm.
Officers contacted the man over the phone, but he refused to come outside.
The North Hills Special Response Team was then called for backup, and the Allegheny County Police Department provided armor support. Channel 11 saw armored vehicles outside of the house.
At this point, the man fired arrows out of a window at SRT officers and made verbal threats, Ross Township police said.
Eventually, after “long negotiation sessions,” the man, identified as Daniel Thomas, 40, of Ross Township, surrendered. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
No one was hurt throughout the situation.
Tadmar Avenue was closed at the intersection of Link Avenue, and Hillendale Road was restricted at the intersection of Westmont Road for the duration of the incident.
