ATF investigating Homer City fuel company fire

HOMER CITY, Pa. — Officials from Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms continue to investigate a fire that erupted at a family-owned fuel supply company in Homer City Thursday.

So far, crews have not been able to determine what sparked the blaze Accent Fuels, causing several explosions.

“It’s more of a science. They go in and are able to tell what the cause of this was and that’s what we were looking,” said Homer City police Chief Lou Sacco.

People living nearby said they are thankful for all the firefighters who responded to the blaze and evacuated homes nearby.

“He put us in the rescue truck to keep us warm, two grandkids, two dogs, my wife and son,” said one neighbor.

The flames did not spread to any homes, but did cause some damage. Ken Patterson said the intense heat melting his siding and shattered a window.

Patterson said firefighters broke through his door after seeing mistaking a mannequin in his living room as person.

“They thought I was standing there and busted the door out. I had locked up and left and they busted the door out so they could get in to save me,” Patterson said.

ATF officials said they continue to search for the cause of the blaze.
