Aurora plans for 30,000 driverless trucks on roads by end of decade

PITTSBURGH — Aurora Innovation Inc. announced plans to have tens of thousands of driverless trucks on the roads by the end of the decade.

Strip District-headquartered Aurora (NADAQ: AUR) organized its annual Analyst and Investor Day on Wednesday and announced that it is on track to have 30,000 driverless trucks on the road by the end of 2030. The company is currently operating an undisclosed number of them in Texas and has agreements in place to operate approximately 200 by the end of the year.

“Today, Aurora and the freight industry are at a point of inflection,” CEO Chris Urmson said during the presentation. “We no longer need to talk about when autonomous trucking is going to happen. We can talk about how it’s happening on the road today. The Aurora Driver is here now and we’re ready to scale.”
