PITTSBURGH — Nearly two decades ago, three Pittsburgh firefighters were killed battling a fire in Homewood.
A new trial was granted for Gregory Brown Jr., and on Monday, Channel 11 learned a judge granted him bail. Bail is set at $750,000 cash.
"It's possible that Greg Brown and his family will be able to raise the funds necessary for him to have a few days of freedom after 18 years of wrongful conviction," said defense attorney Dave Fawcett.
Brown was found guilty of second-degree murder for the firefighters' deaths. Jurors blamed Brown for setting the fire.
In February, a judge granted Brown a new trial after ruling that prosecutors failed to disclose to jurors that two witnesses were paid reward money in exchange for the testimony.
