ELIZABETH, Pa. — A local high school musical is set to go on as scheduled after students pulled together to fix a problem that threatened to close the curtains before they even opened.
Students at Elizabeth Forward High School were preparing for their spring musical, “Beauty and the Beast,” when they discovered a major problem with the backdrops rented by the drama department last Thursday.
Although beautiful, the scenery was too large to be supported by the stage rigging, and little time was left before opening night to fix the problem.
The students preparing for the production did not let this setback discourage them. Instead, they pulled together and worked to build support within the community for their upcoming pancake breakfast, in hopes of raising enough money to make the necessary changes.
Using fliers, the students did just that.
"We handed them out at local gas stations, restaurants, businesses and we kinda went to each business, asking them to help us,” James Benedek, an Elizabeth Forward senior, told Channel 11 reporter Trisha Pittman.
With extra money raised from the breakfast, the show will go on as scheduled as Pittsburgh Stage Company fixes the rigging so the backdrops can be used.
Elizabeth Forward High School’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” will have shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
