ROCHESTER, Pa. — A Beaver County school district said a man tried to grab an elementary school student on the way home from school Tuesday afternoon.
In a letter to parents and the community, Rochester Area School District said the student was approached by a man believed to be in his late 40s/early 50s who tried to grab the student on Heller Street.
The letter said both the Rochester Borough Police Department and Rochester School officials were notified of the incident, and local police forces will continue to patrol the neighborhoods. The school district also said school staff and security will continue to patrol the school campus throughout the day.
In the letter, the school district said:
“As a school community, the safety of our children is of utmost importance. Please remind your children always to be alert of their surroundings. Children should also practice the ‘buddy system’ and always walk with a friend. Please remind your children never to approach strangers.”
The borough police are investigating the incident.
