BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Several families were displaced Monday morning after a fire at a Beaver Falls home spread to nearby houses.

Emergency officials said the fire began around 5:45 a.m. at a home on 13th Street.

Paul King and his family were able to escape the fire, which started in their house.

“We didn’t grab anything. We just grabbed the kids and that was it,” King said. “My niece came upstairs, woke us up and said, ‘The house is on fire.’”

Authorities said firefighters were able to rescue all but one of the King’s several dogs that were trapped inside.

"It was kind of a better feeling seeing my dog of nine years. She's 9, so that was a good feeling," King said.

Investigators said the fire is considered suspicious because it started on the front porch. The cause remains under investigation.

"We are going to have an investigation and the state fire marshal is coming in to assist," Beaver Falls Fire Department Chief Mark Stow said.

No injuries were reported when the fire spread to nearby houses. The people inside those houses made it out safely.

The American Red Cross confirmed it is assisting those affected by the blaze.
