Bogus email schemes people into putting virus on computer

PITTSBURGH — Target 11 is warning people about an email going around that claims to be from the Post Office, notifying you about a package.

According to the Post Office, the email is a scheme. There’s a link inside the email that asks the recipient to pay $5 to get the package.

If you click on the link, it may put a virus on your computer or install a hidden code to take over the computer and steal personal information.

Patricia Newton said she fell victim to the bogus email.

“I read it a couple of times, and it said it was from the Postal Service. Then I read it again, and it said I had a package being held,” Newton said. “Just don’t click on anything you don’t know what you’re clicking on.”

Officials from the Post Office said if there is a package, the recipient will be notified by mail to go to a post office to pick it up.

If you receive the email, delete it immediately.
