WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Kennywood Amusement Park officials, authorities and a representative from the Department of Homeland Security met Monday to discuss major security changes after a large fight involving dozens of people broke out Saturday evening.

Channel 11 News learned that the fight started in Kiddie Land and continued at a McDonald’s across the street when the 50 to 75 people involved were removed from the park.

Channel 11's Joe Holden spoke with a woman who said her car was damaged by the unruly group.

"I heard a crash and there was a brick through my window," said Quinn Palko, who was parked in a nearby lot.

A statement from Kennywood confirmed four people suffered minor injuries.

Kennywood officials asked for crowd control assistance from police departments in neighboring communities during the event because a large group of teenagers became “disruptive and created an uncomfortable situation for other patrons of the park.”

“The first and foremost priority of Kennywood is providing a safe and family-friendly atmosphere for our guests,” the statement said.

During a press conference Monday, authorities and park officials announced that Kennywood is adding more security guards and is considering implementing a chaperone requirement for children. The amusement park had a similar policy in place in the 1990s.

The fight happened on the first day Kennywood was open to the public, and the park closed an hour early because of the chaos.

"What we saw on Saturday night, the number of unruly groups that were causing some trouble throughout the park, we thought it was better to close a little earlier," said Kennywood spokesman Nick Paradise.

The park was closed Sunday but will reopen to guests on Saturday, May 9.

Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage and need help on the case because it’s difficult to see the actual fight on the available video. No one has been charged, authorities said.

Kennywood officials tell Channel 11 the incident did not appear to be planned through social media, and none of the teens had weapons.
