BUTLER, Pa. — A farmer in Butler County has found 150 marijuana plants growing in his corn field, according to police.
Police in Penn Township said the landowner won't be charged because he didn't grow the plants. Instead, police said he discovered them in the middle of his field, hidden by weeds and corn stalks, while he was spraying the tract.
Police believe someone pulled corn stalks out of the field, about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, and planted the marijuana recently.
Police said full-grown plants produce about $500 to $600 worth of marijuana each.
“They were anywhere from 12 to 18 inches,” Penn Township police Officer Jack Ripper said.
Police plan to destroy the plants and to charge whoever planted them, if investigators can determine who that is.
