A Butler County woman is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after reports that she gave a child a THC drink as punishment.
Crystal Roberts, 40, of Saxonburg, was charged with endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and simple assault on Tuesday.
A criminal complaint highlights two incidents between Roberts and a juvenile girl, which police learned about during a forensic interview with the victim in July.
The first incident took place on Dec. 18, 2023, at Roberts’ home. The complaint states Roberts got into an argument with the girl, then grabbed her by the back of the neck and threw her to the ground. The girl hit her head on the frozen ground.
A mandatory reporter informed ChildLine of the incident, but the complaint states there was no record at the Saxonburg Borough Police Department.
The other incident took place in June 2026. Investigators say Roberts purchased a drink from a smoke shop, then gave it to the girl to drink.
The drink was later identified as a 3CHI seltzer with 10 mg of CBD and 100 mg of THC. The product description highlighted in the complaint states it’s made for “those with high tolerances, not for beginners.”
The complaint goes on to say that after consuming the drink, the girl felt “extremely dizzy and nauseous,” then became sick and threw up.
The girl reportedly told police that while she was throwing up, Roberts told her she gave her a THC drink “as a punishment” and to “see what she could tolerate.” This incident took place the same day that Roberts was informed the girl had consumed part of a THC edible with friends.
Roberts is expected in court in October.
