Police corporal, at least 1 other taken to hospital after head-on crash on I-79

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — Butler County 911 confirmed to Channel 11 that units are on scene for a car crash on Interstate 79 northbound in Lancaster Township.

The call for the crash came in at 4:17 p.m. The crash is located near mile marker 91.6.

Channel 11 confirmed this crash is the same crash that sent a New Sewickley Township Police Department corporal to the hospital.

According to New Sewickley Township Police on Facebook, Cpl. Gregory Carney was involved in the head-on crash while returning home from a training class in Meadville.

The post said that Carney sustained serious injuries and was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

At least one other person was taken to a hospital.

New Sewickley Township Police said the crash is under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
