Caught on camera: Suspects try to steal car from Shaler driveway in broad daylight

SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Shaler Township Police are investigating an attempted daylight vehicle theft after four young suspects tried to take a car from a driveway on Tuesday afternoon. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle previously reported stolen from Penn Hills.

The incident occurred in the 500 block of Soose Road when a resident heard noise outside and spotted four individuals in the driveway. Home surveillance video showed two of the suspects entering the victim’s car. When the resident yelled at them, the group got back into their vehicle and drove away.

Police later located the getaway car abandoned and unoccupied in Wilkins Township. Authorities confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen from Penn Hills before the incident.

Shaler Township Police reported that bold daylight vehicle thefts are an emerging trend among local police departments. Department officials warned residents against confronting individuals involved in such crimes.

The Shaler Township Police Department issued safety guidance for residents who encounter active vehicle break-ins.

“We advise that if you happen to be involved in a similar incident, you should not approach or engage with these individuals. Contact 911 immediately and attempt to obtain descriptions if able to safely do so,” the department stated.

Police also urged residents to keep their vehicles locked at all times with the windows up and to make sure no valuables are left in view.
