Channel 11's Courtney Brennan taking part in annual race honoring trooper killed by drunk driver

PITTSBURGH — Channel 11's Courtney Brennan is again taking part in the annual walk/run honoring a fallen Pennsylvania state trooper killed four years ago by a drunk driver.

The 2012 TakeOff Memorial race honoring Trooper Kenton Iwaniec will be held Saturday at St. Vincent College. Iwaniec's family has hosted the memorial every year since his death.

The money raised at the event buys portable Breathalyzers  for state troopers. For more information about the race click here.

On March 27, 2008, Iwaniec finished his shift at the Avondale Barracks in Chester County and began driving home. When he was just two miles away from his station, an oncoming vehicle crossed the center line and hit Iwaniec's vehicle head-on.

The woman who was driving the car had a blood-alcohol concentration level more than four times the legal limit, police said. Authorities also said she was under the influence of Oxycodone and was driving at 73 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The woman also had her 4-year-old son in the car with her. Iwaniec's injuries were the only serious ones in the crash.
