PITTSBURGH — Charges against a state trooper who was allegedly involved in a wedding night fight at Station Square have been dropped.
Channel 11 was outside the courtroom on Thursday as Kiski Valley State Trooper David Williams arrived to face a judge. His fellow troopers kept him surrounded and out of the view of the public.
David Williams was charged with felony aggravated assault for what police said was a melee on the docks of the Gateway Clipper.
"I don't think anybody did anything wrong, and the charges were dismissed," said attorney David Shrager.
Police said the fight started after a server told them the groom, Mark Williams, was touching her inappropriately at his wedding. The waitress apparently contacted her boyfriend, according to the criminal complaint.
"He heard his brother was involved in some trouble with police, and he went down to render aid as appropriate," said Shrager.
Charges were reduced to criminal mischief for Mark Williams and wedding guest Brian Taylor. They were ordered to pay restitution to the owner of a car that was damaged in the fight.
