City of Pittsburgh awarded $550k for community recreation, conversation projects

PITTSBURGH — The City of Pittsburgh has been awarded $550,000 in state grant funding from the Shapiro Administration for local recreation and trail development.

The grant allocation designates $500,000 for the rehabilitation of Fort Pitt Park in the Garfield neighborhood and $50,000 for a study to further develop the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.

The state funding is provided through the Community Conservation Partnership Programs. The grant initiative is managed by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.

Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor praised the state investment in the city’s outdoor infrastructure.

“I’d like to thank the Shapiro Administration for another great investment in the future of our communities,” O’Connor said. “This funding will help us update a community park for the kids, residents and families in Garfield and study how we can connect and expand the popular Three Rivers Heritage Trail.”

The grant program aims to build connections between state residents and the outdoors by supporting recreational improvements, natural resource conservation and community revitalization efforts across Pennsylvania.
