PITTSBURGH — The City of Pittsburgh will benefit from two state grants totaling $1.2 million.
The first grant of $800,000 will help the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire buy a new pumper truck. State Sens. Wayne Fontana (D-District 42) and Lindsey Williams (D-District 38) secured the funding, according to a Wednesday release from the city.
Fontana also secured a $450,000 grant for the Pittsburgh Land Bank, aiming to stabilize properties in the city’s Hilltop neighborhoods for new housing.
“Thanks to Senator Fontana and Senator William’s leadership, the City will receive over $1.2 million in LSA funding to purchase a new fire truck and stabilize property to redevelop housing in the Hilltop,” Mayor Corey O’Connor said. “This is a huge win for the City, and we’re grateful to the Senators and the State for this investment in our communities.”
“I’m grateful to Senator Fontana for his steadfast commitment to the Land Bank and to neighborhood stabilization across blighted parts of Pittsburgh,” District 3 City Councilperson Bob Charland said. “This vital funding is an essential first step toward reversing neglect in my hilltop neighborhoods, hopefully bringing long overdue investment and new life to this part of our city.”
Awarded to public interest projects, the Statewide Local Share Account grants are funded by gaming revenue through the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
