CMU hosts AI infrastructure summit with focus on environmental impacts, community response

On Friday, Carnegie Mellon University hosted an event focused on how the growing wave of data center developments in Pennsylvania are poised to impact communities.

The event, titled the “Community-Centered AI Infrastructure Summit,” brought together academic experts and researchers, as well as community and environmental activists and state lawmakers.

Speakers across two panels discussed whether Pennsylvania’s push to attract AI infrastructure and data centers can be balanced with local communities’ concerns over energy demand, environmental and public-health impacts, economic benefits, government oversight and community involvement in development decisions.
