PITTSBURGH — Local college students hosted an indie music festival to help raise money for people affected by the East Palestine train derailment.
The “Oakland Indie Festival” was held at Flagstaff Hill in Oakland on Saturday.
Nine local bands contributed to the show.
The group of students who put the event together said they were moved by the stories of people living near the derailment and wanted to use their love of music to raise money for the school in East Palestine and their surrounding residents.
“I grew up in Beaver County so I am about 15 minutes from East Palestine. I have family and friends that live very close that are directly affected so any way that I can go and put something together with the people that I know and the community that I live amongst was no question. I was going to do this,” said Adam Klenovich who organized the event.
More than $6000 was raised by sponsors and even more was donated during the festival.
