Crews were on the scene of a structure fire in Forward Township, Allegheny County, Friday morning.

“I saw the smoke, and I could see it coming from where I knew there were some house,” said Carl Fekula.

After finding out the smoke was not coming from one of his neighbors’ houses, Fekula took a picture of the smoke filling the sky. At that point, firefighters were already all over a commercial building in the 400 block of Lori J Circle. A 911 dispatcher said the call came in around 8:33 a.m.

“EMS said there was smoke coming from the structure so we expedited and rushed out all the units we needed,” said Forward Township Volunteer Fire Company Second Assistant Chief Michael Trumpe.

No injuries were reported.

Trumpe says they were concerned about some oxygen and propane tanks. Besides that, there were tools and excavating equipment inside. Firefighters also had to navigate a water supply issue.

“We ended up bringing in six different tankers to set up a drop tank to help us with the water supply,” said Trumpe. “But other than that, no other challenges.”

The cause of the fire has not been released.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
