PITTSBURGH — An emergency demolition order was issued Friday after a Pitcairn home fell into a neighboring building.

The house on Short Street was one of 22 properties placed on the demolition list last year.

“I was upstairs watching TV, and I came out. I thought it was the house behind us because that had some problems too, but then we saw this house here leaning right up against ours,” said Don Trainer.

Code enforcement officers issued vacate notices for both properties.

Rick Vilsack, whose family owns the house Trainer lives in, said he doesn't agree with the borough.

Vilsack believes even though the house next door is definitely leaning, his tenants are safe.

“I put over $100,000 into that house, and I don't want to put any more into it,” said Vilsack.

Borough officials said they plan to have the leaning building torn down as soon as possible.
