Man accused of trying to kidnap woman he went on a date with; Dollar Tree employee helps her escape

WHITE OAK, Pa. — People in White Oak are shocked to learn about an attempted kidnapping.

“It’s sad. It really is. That we live in a society now where you really can’t trust anybody and my advice is to make sure you know the person before you get in the vehicle with them,” Robin Miller of White Oak said.

Miller is one of several people from White Oak who were shocked and sad to hear that a woman had to escape a terrifying situation.

According to police, a woman told officers Marcus Render drove up to her Crawford Village home, saying he wanted to show her something.

The woman told police she knew Render from a previous date they had gone on.

She got in the car with him, but told police that was when he sped off with her inside.

She told police he started to grab her leg and told her she was going to have sex with him. When she refused, Render said she had no choice.

According to police, Render eventually pulled into the White Oak Dollar Tree and told the woman she was not allowed to get out, but while he was in the store, the woman jumped from the car, told an employee to forget they saw her and hid behind the building.

That employee called police and said the woman seemed like she was in danger.

“At least she actually got out of the situation. Good for her for having that gumption to get out of the vehicle,” Miller said.

When police arrived, Render was gone, but they found text messages on the woman’s phone that said he was “just joking” and that if he knew she was scared, he would have stopped.

Render is now charged with kidnapping, terrorist threats and false imprisonment.

He was arrested at his home in McKeesport.
