PLUM, Pa. — Officials said three day care employees are facing charges after reportedly assaulting children.
Police brought criminal charges against Pittsburgh East Community Church's Genesis Childcare workers Eileen Andrews, Angela Russo and Terry Bachner.
Plum Police Chief Frank Monaco said former employees of the day care witnessed intentional abuse to toddlers multiple times. Andrews was once seen lifting a child up by his head.
"One of the stories had to with a child being disciplined where a 3-year-old was lifted up by his head," said Monaco. "I don't think anyone would want someone lifting their 3-year-old by their head."
Police added that what makes the situation even more alarming is the fact that Andrews' supervisors covered it up.
Kim Tronsberg, a former day care owner, said that she understands the stress employees can feel.
"It can be a stressful. It can be difficult," said Tronsberg. "They were to ask for help if they needed. Walk away from the situation."
The women face assault charges against toddlers.
