PITTSBURGH — Police are investigating after a “death note” was found at an elementary school outside Pittsburgh.
According to Burrell School District superintendent Shannon Wagner, the note was found at Stewart Elementary School this past week.
Authorities said a fifth-grade boy posted the note on a wall inside the school on Wednesday. The note contained the names of five or six students, police said.
“After conducting the investigation, we found it is based on the anime, ‘Death Note,’" Wagner said.

Wagner said the school and local police are involved in the case.
“The district in coordination with our School Resource Officer and the Lower Burrell Police Department have conducted an investigation into the matter,” Wagner said. “Appropriate actions have been taken with the students involved.”
Police told Channel 11's Gordon Loesch that they have to take the threat seriously.
Officials said all the families of students involved have been notified. A letter was also sent home to parents Friday making them aware of the situation.
The student accused of making the note is not in school, authorities said. The police chief said he’ll talk with prosecutors and decide next week if the student should face any charges.
Below is the entire statement sent to Channel 11 from Wagner:
