PITTSBURGH — Kane Road Drive In Theater in Hopewell Township was torn down Wednesday.

The decades-old business held a groundbreaking ceremony involving local and country politicians.

87-year-old Steve Gray built the drive-in with his father in 1953, and they opened for business a year later.

It remained one of the few drive-in theaters in the Pittsburgh area until 2013 when it stumbled on hard financial times and was forced to close.

Gray told Channel 11's Tony Atkins today was "bittersweet."

A developer plans to build condominiums on the lot.
