PITTSBURGH — A derailment in a Pittsburgh Regional Transit rail yard is expected to delay light rail service during rush hour.
PRT says one axle of a rail car derailed from the tracks in the South Hills Village rail yard and is preventing any cars from getting in or out of the rail center.
At this time, PRT estimates about a quarter of the cars needed for rush hour service are currently in the system.
Those who use public transportation are urged to take a bus route, if possible. Delays are expected for several hours.
Photos sent to Channel 11 show large crowds waiting at the Steel Plaza Station and extremely crowded rail cars.
PRT crews are working to put the car back on the tracks and inspect the rail.
