PITTSBURGH — Nonprofit housing developer, Action Housing, is calling its latest affordable housing project in Lawrenceville a gateway to one of Pittsburgh’s most desired neighborhoods.

Their latest location for affordable housing is on Penn Avenue in Lawrenceville. The project includes 35 new units that were once vacant properties, and are designed to house everyone, including those with mental and physical disabilities.

In an effort to include the entire surrounding community, the property includes an outdoor plaza, open to all residents of Lawrenceville. This is something the president of Action Housing, Michael Dear, says is key. “This is a big day that we can have this many units right here in the heart of a very, very desirable and very profitable place.”

Dear also says this new housing project will provide not just an opportunity to help people who need affordable housing, but empower those who live here with a chance to prosper. “This will raise this community and it will bring in other entrepreneurs and other people to say ‘hey, this is a great community where I can live, raise my family, and prosper, and have opportunities for growth and jobs and everything else.’”

Action Housing says they hope to have all 35 units at full capacity by this December.
