Developer preparing to seek approvals to convert downtown GNC building into apartments

PITTSBURGH — A New York developer is taking the early steps needed to convert a major building in the Wood Street corridor into a new residential address downtown.

According to agenda materials for a Feb. 10 Development Activities Meeting with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Victrix LLC is pursuing the redevelopment of the 15-story 300 Sixth Avenue building at the corner of Wood Street into a 236-unit apartment building.

While there doesn’t appear to be any county records indicating a sale of the building to Victrix yet, the building has been marketed for sale as GNC Holdings Inc. works to move out of its long-time downtown headquarters for a new office in the Strip District at 75 Hopper Place at the next phase of 3 Crossings.
