Dog in critical condition after being stabbed several times in Pittsburgh, officials say

PITTSBURGH — A dog was badly hurt in a stabbing incident Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

A Pittsburgh Public Safety Department spokesperson says police and animal control officers were called to the 1100 block of Sheffield Street around 10:45 p.m.

Preliminary information shows a man and woman were arguing when the man started taunting a dog.

The dog then bit his wrists, and he stabbed it several times, officials say.

Officers arrested the man and took the dog to an animal hospital, where it was last listed in critical condition.

Court records show the man, identified as 49-year-old Corey Heyward, is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
