Driver charged with DUI after hitting parked cars, police cruiser awaits trial

PITTSBURGH — A driver who was arrested last month after hitting a police car and several parked cars on the South Side is preparing to go to trial.

According to the criminal complaint, Rasheed Williams hit a rail coming down the Birmingham Bridge before hitting several parked cars on 23rd and Josephine streets April 12. The chase ended at the Get-Go convenience store.

According to police, a second officer arrived at the scene on the corner of East Carson and 23rd streets, and took the Williams into custody.

Williams waived a preliminary hearing Monday and will head to trial.

“We’re going to go up to the Court of Common Pleas and deal with the case then,” defense attorney Blaine Jones said.

Edward Vidal said he saw the end of the incident from his home across the street.

“I saw a lot of police cars,” Vidal said. “These guys are out here trying to protect us and now they have to worry about protecting themselves on top of it.”

Authorities said at least three people helped the officers catch Williams. There were no injuries reported in the incident.

Police said Williams had a blood alcohol level of twice the legal limit at the time of the incident.
