MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Emergency crews rescued a patient and driver from an ambulance Sunday night that was in danger of falling over a hillside in Moon Township.
Firefighters responded to the scene along Boggs School Road about 7 p.m. when an ambulance transporting a patient from the Green Valley Personal Care home accidentally backed up a few inches too far.
According to Moon Township Police Chief Leo McCarthy, the ambulance would have gone over a hillside, but it was able to be stabilized and the driver and patient were rescued.
McCarthy described the 90-minute event as tense moments as the ambulance hung on the hillside.
“They were leaving in an ambulance with a patient. They were backing down and went over the lip of the driveway and they were teetering on the driveway over a hillside,” McCarthy said.
“They removed the patient, but while this was happening, they had to close the road for about an hour and 45 minutes,” McCarthy said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
