Driver stops bus, calls police on ‘rowdy' students

PITTSBURGH — A school bus driver fed up with students’ “rowdy” behavior stopped his bus Thursday morning and refused to take the students to school until police arrived.

Channel 11’s Trisha Pittman reported that the driver was taking the children to Urban Pathways Charter School when their unruly behavior forced the driver to pull over in Lawrenceville.

Police said the students were not in their assigned seats and were throwing objects, including spit balls, at the driver.

After officers arrived and the children calmed down, the driver resumed the trip to the Penn Avenue school.

The CEO of Urban Pathways, Dr. Linda Clautti, said she spoke to all of the students on board the bus and took statements from them. Any students who were breaking the rules will be reprimanded, she said.

Clautti said she does not hold the bus driver responsible and said he did the right thing for his and the children’s safety.
